The immediate targets are the slums located in the premises of ISM, Dhanbad.
Fighting poverty does not mean distributing resources to the poor, it aims at making them self sustainable. Awalamban trains slum people and employs them in the field of manufacturing notebooks and incense sticks in its ambitious mission to bar the unemployed population of slums from choosing illegal paths to earn their livelihood and provide a respectable and prosperous life.
More happenings can be followed at www.awalamban.co.cc

Our duties towards the Nation

I created this account to express my feelings about the poor population of my country i.e. the people living below the poverty line.

First of all I would like to share the experience which evoked my concerns about the poor......It was the evening of Diwali,a much awaited festival for the hindus of India also known for bringing prosperity to the home.
I was hanging out with my cousin(I was in Dhanbad this Diwali) to buy some crackers for my nephew and his list of demands was to long that the shop was not being able to meet his desires.Just then I saw a person in very few (dirty) clothes wandering around from one shop to other with a girl(aged 9 or 10).The girl was continuously requesting him to buy earthen diyas and the person was probably trying to get them at the cheapest prices possible. It was around 7:30pm when all the houses were already glittering with the lights of diyas and decoration bulbs etc.I remembered that during my childhood i used to get the diyas bought at least one week before the festival and it was even earlier in case of crackers.
I could feel the intensity of desire that the little girl was experiencing at that time.Doesn't She deserve the same pleasure, the same enjoyment.Is it her 'fault' if she demands for 'happyness'.I couldn't celebrate that Diwali thinking all the time about that poor family and many more in the same situation.
I am studying at an elite institute and hence people think my career is pretty secured which is even true to an extent but this very thinking often pains me that, do I deserve to be the one of those few thousands of people out of a population of billion, to relish the luxury of a 'secure future' and 'a felicitous life'.
It reminds me the thoughts of some great personalities of India(Swami Vivekananda and Indira Gandhi) that "POVERTY is the biggest enemy of our country". It is the root cause of all the glooms prevailed in the Indian society.
Now the point of thinking is what does our country expect from a person like me or rather us(people reading this blog are thought to be at good enough condition).
I think the most effective way to beat poverty is prevailing education in our society and hence I am currently related with an NGO named "KARTAVYA-An Effort of college students towards an educated INDIA".It provides education to slum children free of cost so that they can shape their future according to their desire and change the fate of their family even.We also provide vocational trainings to grown ups which helps them in earning some livelihood.To know more about KARTAVYA please visit www.kartavya.org

Well this is one way of fulfilling your duties but it is not enough and the country demands a lot more from us.What else can be done in this regard?
I request the readers to let me know their ideas and plans if they have any.I would love to be a part of any such campaign or mission which curbs the grieve of our society.
Waiting for a response from the youth of INDIA.
Dhiraj
@ISMU,Dhanbad
